Thoreau advised to go “confidently in the direction of your dreams, and live the life you have imagined.” But how do you do that?
“Manifest” is defined as “to make evident or certain by showing or displaying.” How do things go from invisible to invisible, from your mind to appearing in the outer world, from your imagination to something you can see, feel, touch with your external senses?
One of the strange secrets of manifesting is you actually don’t know “how” things will manifest. Yes you have at least a sense of the outcome, where you want to go, but how exactly you get there is somewhat of a mystery.
You’ll never understand the power of gratitude unless you try it. But here’s something to consider if you want a free and easy way to change a negative attitude.
We now have scientific proof from some recent studies performed at the University of California, Davis that focusing on being grateful improves quality of life and stimulates progress toward important goals.
Gratitude is now a science! And all you have to do to become one of the first students of the new science of gratitude is explore how an attitude of gratitude can change your life.
You may be surprised to hear that most people won’t use this simple approach, even though just about anyone can do it, it’s completely free, and it may be the ultimate key to success in life. Why? Because you have to change negative thinking habits and this requires effort and perseverance.
It’s not that having an attitude of gratitude is difficult, but it’s probably different from the most frequent thoughts that go through your head now. If you’re familiar with the Law of Attraction, you’ve probably heard that every thought and feeling carries a vibration.
Love, joy, and gratitude are the highest vibrations you can experience. On the other end of the spectrum, you find negative thoughts and feelings like fear, hostility, resentment, anger, and hatred.
The key to success is this. You can wipe out a negative attitude by shifting your focus to gratitude as often as possible. To confirm the power of gratitude now, focus on something you are grateful for and notice what happens to your fears and concerns.
The high vibration of gratitude virtually eliminates all of these concerns. In fact, it puts you into a more resourceful state, so you can find solutions to the challenges you face.
Some of the best times to focus on gratitude are at night as you are drifting off to sleep and in the morning when you rise to a new day. There’s something to be said about the idea of getting up on the right side of the bed, because the attitude you set out with at the beginning of the day tends to set the pace for the remainder of the day.
It’s most powerful to set aside a piece of time in the morning to focus on the day ahead and express gratitude. Ways of doing this include journaling, sharing gratitude thoughts with your family at breakfast, and thinking or even voicing your gratitude as you drive to work.
And you can be grateful for anything, however big or small. To add more power to your gratitude study, you can express gratitude both for the blessings you now have in your life and for the ones that are coming.
So if you want to have a positive day, you can express gratitude for the positive things that are going to happen to you that day. Or if you want to meet new people, you can express gratitude that they are coming into your life. You may be amazed at the results.
KEEP DOING IT. People often start out with a lot of enthusiasm about changing habits, only to find themselves back where they started after a few weeks or months. You have to make expressions of gratitude part of your daily life. Having people around you who reinforce your goal of expressing gratitude and creating a better life can make the difference. Whatever you do, just stay with it!
If you are not where you want to be in life, you probably realize that you have to do things differently to produce different results. This is a critical key in coaching. Fortunately, you can find resources to accelerate your progress. In his classic book Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill provided a six-step formula that explains exactly how to manifest your desires.
The most effective approach is to follow in the footsteps of people who know how to achieve success. Napoleon Hill devoted his life to learning how to create awesome success, and highly successful people still rely on his advice to coach themselves to success today.
Reading is one thing and taking action is another. This is the place where most people fall short. As Napoleon Hill instructed in his six-step formula, the time to start is now and we want to make it easy for you. Here is a sample statement you can customize, put in writing, and read as he instructed. We added the element of gratitude, which we will explain below.
I am Grateful every day for the life I am creating, where:

Napoleon Hill also speaks about the power of gratitude in Think and Grow Rich. You can view the addition of the gratitude statement as optional, though we put it here for a reason.
Gratitude is a powerful force for manifesting your desires. Starting with a statement of gratitude can change your state and add more power to the statements that follow it. Try it for yourself and notice what happens!
An attitude of gratitude is one of the most powerful forces in the universe and also an essential key for coaching yourself to success in all areas of life.
Then you may want to develop a habit of expressing daily gratitude. To begin, you won’t want to miss this wonderful letter one of our readers shared with us years ago.
If you woke up this morning with more health than illness …you are more blessed than the million who will not survive this week.
If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation … you are ahead of 500 million people in the world.
If you can attend a church meeting without fear of harassment, arrest, torture, or death…you are more blessed than three billion people in the world.
If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep…you are richer than 75% of this world.
If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish someplace…you are among the top 8% of the world’s wealthy.
If your parents are still alive and still married…you are very rare, even in the United States.
If you hold up your head with a smile on your face and are truly thankful…you are blessed because the majority can, but most do not.
If you can hold someone’s hand, hug them or even touch them on the shoulder…you are blessed because you can offer healing touch.
If you can read this message, you just received a double blessing in that someone was thinking of you, and furthermore, you are more blessed than over two billion people in the world that cannot read at all.
Have a good day, count your blessings, and remember how blessed we all are.
We are all so blessed.”
After reading that letter, it almost seems silly that we have to practice being grateful. But you could look at it like bathing, a good way to start and/or end every day. Gratitude and love go together. Gratitude warms your heart and it can brighten your life in unimaginably wonderful ways. You may not think of it as a success strategy, but it is one of the most powerful keys to success in the universe.
Here’s a suggestion: as you rise in the morning, start the day by focusing on being grateful for what you have and for the blessings that are coming your way. If you want to create something, express gratitude that it is happening.
