factor in ideal weight and health, which is often overlooked,
is detoxification. This problem confronts us so directly
that we might not even recognize it, like fish not knowing
they are in water.
What is a toxin?
It's any substance irritating or harming our body. We
continually take in toxins from our environment by breathing
them, by ingesting them, or through physical contact with
them. In other words, we unavoidably absorb toxins daily.
Toxins include pesticides,
antibiotics and hormones in food, chemicals from food
packaging, household cleaners, detergents, food additives,
heavy metals, pollution, drugs, and cigarette smoke.
If our diet lacks nutrients, it
can impair our natural ability to detoxify chemicals, which
further leads to their build-up in the body.
Here's an important fact. Due to the
chemicalized treatment of the soil for many generations,
there are far less minerals in the soil. Thus foods have
considerably less minerals than they did even 50 years ago.

amounts of sugar (Americans consume about 156 pounds per year/
22 teaspoons daily or more.)

perhaps 75 percent of most cancers are caused by environmental
and lifestyle factors, including exposure to chemicals. A
report by the Columbia University School of Public Health
estimated that 95 percent of cancer is caused by diet and
toxin-laden environment we live in is why Americans have
somewhere between 400 and 800 chemicals stored in their
bodies, typically in fat cells.
Toxins have been independently linked
to an increase risk of diabetes, insulin resistance,
cardiovascular disease, impaired neurological development,
learning and attention deficit disorders, endometriosis,
thyroid problems, hormone imbalances, and more.
